Tax Return
If you are living and working in AUSTRALIA or NEW ZEALAND, taxes will be automatically deducted from your gross salary. At the end of the financial year (Australia: 30 June & New Zealand: 31 March) you should request a refund of the taxes paid.
HOW TO REQUEST MY TAX REFUND?
Australia: 30 June – 31 October is the time frame for preparing and submitting your tax refund claim. You can do this in person or send your application by email to the nearest ATO office.
However, to ensure you provide all the correct details, we recommend you use the services of Taxback to complete your tax return, as they are experts in tax refunds for international students and short term stay persons.
New Zealand: You can request your Tax Return from the Inland Revenue Department (IRD) after 31 March.
HOW MUCH MONEY WILL I GET BACK?
Taxback can get you an average refund of $2,500.00 in Australia and $550 in New Zealand but this will vary depending on the type of work you have carried out, number of hours, type of visa etc. Taxback will help you get the best return possible in the shortest possible time and transfer the money to anywhere in the world.
In addition to this, when you return to your home country, Taxback can organize the refund of the superannuation funds you have paid which usually is about 9% of your salary.
