Study + Work
New Zealand does extend the same work rights for international students as in Australia.
You are only permited to work 20 hours /week if you are enrolled in a study program that fulfills one of the following criteria:
- The study program is at least 2 years in length and is delivered through a private centre or university
- The study program is an official program that qualifies for points for the Skilled Migrant Category of Immigration New Zealand’s Residence Instructions.
- The study program is a university exchange program of 1 year duration.
- You are a High School student (Year 12 or Year 13) and you have the school’s and y0ur parents autority.
You are able to work during the Christmas holiday period, when you are enrolled in a course that is more than 12 months in length.
The New Zealand government has announced recently that international students who study in the Canterbury region (Christchurch) can work part time (20 hours/week)
These work rights are intitally only for a trial period of 18 months.
Course duration: 14 weeks minimum
